Edward G. Brandenstein|Principal
Edward G. Brandenstein is a principal attorney with Pion, Nerone, Girman & Smith, P.C. Mr. Brandenstein has over twenty-five years of experience with his practice focused primarily in the transportation industry and trucking-related claims, issues and litigation. Ed has handled and managed trucking claims from initial emergency accident notification, response and investigation throughout all aspects of ligation. He also handles products and premises liability matters, collection, commercial litigation, property and casualty, insurance coverage, personal injury, and business losses. Ed has significant experience with creditors rights issues, mass tort, fracking industry litigation, bankruptcy, municipal law, construction law, criminal defense, property damage litigation involving leaks, floods and water damage, fires and fire damage and construction claims.
Mr. Brandenstein is admitted to practice before the States and all Federal Courts in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio. He also is admitted to practice in Maryland and the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association, the West Virginia Bar Association and the District of Columbia Bar Association.
Prior to joining PionLaw, Mr. Brandenstein was a partner with a long-standing Pittsburgh defense firm where he worked for over fifteen years after working for several years at a large Pittsburgh firm with a national platform. Originally from the South Hills of Pittsburgh, Ed returned to Pittsburgh in 1996 and spent several years handling commercial litigation and creditors’ rights lawsuits. While in law school, Ed became a Certified Legal Intern and worked at the Dauphin County Public Defender’s Office where he won acquittal in his first felony jury trial while still in law school. He continued as an Assistant Public Defender following law school and he has tried many jury trials to verdict with an impressive acquittal record.
Mr. Brandenstein graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Political Science and a Business Administration Minor. He then graduated from Widener University School of Law, Harrisburg with extensive ATLA and Moot Court Competitions, including Moot Court Honor Society Semifinalist. He was awarded membership in the Trial Advocacy Honor Society.
When not in the office, Ed can generally be found in the woods or at a rink, as he is an avid bowhunter, a mountain biker, a trail steward at North Park and he plays adult hockey after coaching his son’s teams for over ten years. He also is a founding member, treasurer and a coach of the Pittsburgh North Interscholastic Cycling Team where he teaches junior high and high school age young adults to ride and race mountain bikes so that they are much faster than he is.
