Joseph M. Morelli is an associate of Pion, Nerone, Girman, Winslow & Smith, P.C. Mr. Morelli concentrates his practice in the areas of transportation law, personal and commercial carrier lines insurance defense, insurance coverage litigation and general civil litigation. Mr. Morelli has been in practice for over 25 years handling both commercial and personal carrier lines throughout Western Pennsylvania. His primary practice has focused on defense in all aspects of Pennsylvania’s Motor Vehicle Financial Responsibility Law, first and third-party actions, as well as bad faith suits, commercial trucking, premises liability, Dram Shop/liquor liability and commercial general liability. Mr. Morelli also has significant experience with prosecution of subrogation actions and insurance fraud/special investigation unit matters.
Mr. Morelli graduated from Washington & Jefferson College in 1991 with majors in Political Science and Business Administration. He received his J.D. from the University of Widener School of Law in 1995 where he was published in the Journal of Individual Employment Rights.
Following his service with the United States Army Judge Advocate General Corps, Mr. Morelli served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Joseph Walko of the Beaver County Court of Common Pleas. He was employed as an associate attorney for a Pittsburgh boutique insurance defense firm before opening his own practice where he served as trial counsel for two insurance carriers and private clients for in excess of 10 years. Mr. Morelli subsequently worked as “Of Counsel” for the Pittsburgh office of a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania insurance defense firm and a Columbus, Ohio insurance defense firm. He is regularly appointed as a statutory arbitrator, has served as a mediator in personal injury cases and has served as both moderator and lecturer in various CLE presentations.
Mr. Morelli is admitted to practice before all Pennsylvania State Courts and the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. Mr. Morelli is a present or past member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Beaver County Bar Association – Civil Rules Committee founding member, the Allegheny County Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Defense Institute.
